You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one

Love is in the air, everywhere I look around…

Ahhh, we’re basking in the warmth of the sun and the lingering glow of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s romantic Royal Wedding here in the UK. As the animated Reverend Curry inspired us on Saturday, ‘There’s power in love. Don’t underestimate it’.

Never underestimate the power of a rousing speech either, or the impact of passion on making a massive worldwide impression! At Incognito Artists we’re big fans of passion. And love. Love is all you need.

Speaking of love is in the air, that reminds me that our glamorous, multi-talented diva Charlotte Gooch is playing Tina Sparkle in the West End’s production of Strictly Ballroom at the Piccadilly Theatre. Go and check it out, if you’re in the UK, to feel uplifted and inspired. Charlotte and our remarkable tenor and choreographer extraordinaire, Alan Burkitt, were chosen to do a tap duet for the Queen and Prince Philip’s 70th platinum wedding anniversary in November last year, at Windsor Castle.

You see, that’s six degrees of separation right there. Incognito Artists and Royalty. That’s one of the reasons I love London. You get to experience all kinds of adventures from the school run, to office meetings, to singing and dancing at night for Royalty, all in a day’s work.

But across the Atlantic things aren’t so rosy. The day before the wedding there was another horrific school shooting in Santa Fe that killed 10 more students.

The New York Daily News commented: ‘They do royal weddings. We do schoolkids’ funerals.’

Enough. When will it be enough?

Here in London, or in NZ – or everywhere in the world apart from the US – we can’t even imagine worrying about whether our kids are safe from death by shooting at school. I worry about bullying or whether my kids are doing their best, feeling okay, but DEATH. What the??? In America, it seems that most young people in schools have to fear for their lives by just trying to get an education. I saw one student at Santa Fe interviewed on TV and she made the plaintive statement, ‘I knew it was going to happen, I just didn’t know when’.

The logical solution is stricter gun laws. We all know the for-and-against arguments proclaimed by Americans but come on! They need to stand together and solve their problem, fast. How can the powers-that-be sleep at night? Enough is enough.

This week we’re remembering Manchester and all those affected by the 22nd May 2017 bombing too.

Reverend Curry’s words are ringing in my ears, whether it’s about Harry and Meghan, Manchester or the tragedy in the Santa Fe community:

“Think and imagine a world when love is the way. Imagine our homes and families when love is the way. Imagine neighbourhoods and communities when love is the way. Imagine governments and nations when love is the way. Imagine business and commerce when love is the way. Imagine this tired, old world when love is the way.”

Amen, brothers and sisters.
